The shunting freight train to Romhany

Vac - Diosjeno - Romhany - Diosjeno - Vac

Photos and written by: Endre Barta

Travelling less than an hour from Budapest, you can find romantic vicinal railways among the slopes of the Cserhat linking remote villages and small industrial plants to the outer world. Cock-crow, spring scents, smiling railwaymen - a surrealistic impression in the beginning of the 3rd millennium... In the golden days of the Romhany line all stations had at least one company needing the freight services of the railway, freight trains ran twice a day. Great Days of Small Locomotives

Puspokladany - Szeghalom - Veszto - Kotegyan - Bekescsaba

Photos and written by: Endre Barta

The situation was appalling in Veszto, almost all DMUs were lining up in front of the depot. However, railway traffic had to go, one loco arrived from Szeged to help and freight locomotives were also involved to haul passenger trains. The weak and broken Class M32s didn't have such a lot of tasks since long, the locomotive drivers and the technicians did their bit from the struggle, too. It was still worse because Eastern Hungary was covered by deep snow. ALBUM...
